There's No Place Like Home!

So True! I was "released" from quarantine on Friday and got to go home. I got the best welcome home EVER! Thanks to Cathy for helping with these great signs and thanks to our neighbors for keeping Allen and the kids fed!

We had a busy weekend getting caught up.....swimming, a bike ride and playing with bubbles!

Underwater!

Wanted to share an update on everyone....the kids are doing great. Kaitlyn can now swim across the short part of the pool and loves to go underwater. She's getting really good at holding her breath and can go under to get dive sticks off of the stairs. Allen's been bringing the kids over to my parents the past few days. I can see them out of my bedroom window while they are playing in the backyard or the pool. It's so hard to be so close to them and not be with them, but I'm really happy to get to see them everyday.

Allen's surviving on his own with lots of help from our neighbors, friends and my parents. Of course, I had not doubts, he's such a great Dad!

I'm surviving as well. Really bored, but doing ok. I've watched 6 movies, read 1 book and at least a dozen magazines in the past few days. On Monday I can start to venture out of the room more and take walks outside or see my parents for more than a few minutes at a time. I'm wearing rubber gloves while I use the computer and anytime I leave the guest room.

The hospital stay wasn't as bad as a thought. They just put a table right inside the door and then the nurses would leave water or food on it for me to come and get. I drank more water than I thought possible! I had to shower every 4 hours and then change my own bed linens so that I wouldn't recontaminate myself when I got back into bed. Michael was the tech from nuclear medicine who gave me my dose of I 131. That was kind of freaky...I had to sign all of these forms and then put on rubber gloves. The medicine was in a very heavy lead container that I had to open and then take out a small plastic vial. Inside the vial was the pill - it looked like a Tylenol. Michael gave me instructions while standing across the room and kept telling me not to drop it and not to throw it up! Anyway, my dose was 100 millicuries. He came back after 1 hour with the geiger counter and my thyroid measured 50. He said that the next morning my "magic number" would be 15....meaning I had to drink, shower and pee this stuff out of me to get the level down to 15 so that I could go home. When he came back yesterday I measured 9 so I was really excited.

My whole body scan is scheduled for Monday the 23rd. They'll get some measurements on where the cancer stands and if it had spread anywhere or not. I'll keep everyone posted. Thanks again for your support for me and my family during this difficult time. We are all really looking forward to having this behind us.

Little Jumper!

More pictures of our little fish...this time jumping to Daddy off of the Hot Tub! Good thing Namma and Grandpa don't have a High Dive!! Tyler got in the pool again...loved it when Daddy threw him in the air!
We celebrated Father's Day a week early since I'll be radioactive next Sunday! HFD to Allen and Grandpa!

We had a Date!

Last night we went to Chastain ampitheater (an outdoor venue) with some friends and enjoyed several bottles of wine (something new to try - a great white blend called Seven Daughters) and saw ZZ TOP. Our table was right up front! It was so awesome! The opening band was incredible too. Zac Brown Band. His single "Chicken Fried" is going to be released to country stations on June 16th. They are a local Georgia band and great Southern Rock! I added a You Tube link to the side of my page so you can get a preview!

Thanks Mimi for coming over to babysit!! The kids had a great time!

Tyler Swims!

Ok, well not really, but Mom and I actually got him in the big pool without any tears this time! It helped that the water was like 86 degrees too! He splashed and laughed and floated around in his boat without a complete death grip on me. He even put his face in the waterfall!! Hooray!

Kaitlyn couldn't care that he was in the pool except that he was hogging Namma's attention. :-)

Great Expression

'Whenever God Closes One Door He Always Opens A Window, Even Though Sometimes It's Hell in the Hallway'....

I thought this was great and can really be applied to a lot of situations.

I did get confirmation today that my RAI treatment will be next week. I'll get injections the two days prior of a drug called Thyrogen and then will be admitted on the morning of the 12th. I also had to go back to my surgeons office today because he didn't take out all of my stitches and my neck was getting infected!! UGGH! The Dr. I saw today was in total shock because when he "dug" in my scar he pulled out over an inch of stitch material that my other Dr. had "accidently" not removed! I'm fine and on antibiotics, I just hope it doesn't mess up my scar.

Sunday Swimming Day

Ok....I have a feeling that this blog will be featuring LOTS of swimming pictures this summer! But I can't help it - Kaitlyn loves the pool and the pictures are just too cute! She's getting really good at jumping in and putting her head underwater.

We actually got Tyler in the kiddie pool this weekend and he loved it. He even stuck is face in to blow bubbles! Now, we just have to convince him that the pool IS heated and it won't be scary. I'll keep you posted on our progress.

Kaitlyn was very serious about squirting Namma....she's getting VERY good with those things!! :-) Check out that firing stance!

Birthday Party!

Yesterday we went to our friends Heidi & Karl's twin boys Birthday party. Mack and Nathan are three! It was an Indian theme with lots of elephants. Check out these adorable cookies!

Anyway, when we were going to leave, Heidi's Dad was holding the door open for Kaitlyn. Quite innocently she went up to him, patted his belly and asked "Is there a baby in there?" We all died laughing, even through my embarrassment. Thanks for being such a good sport Russ!
